Julian Klein Tephilharmonic Cantorial Scholarship 2010
Tephilharmonic is offering a one year scholarship to the Tel Aviv Cantorial Institute (TACI) from the Julian Klein Memorial Fund to study chazanut under Cantor Naftali Herstik, Raymond Goldstein, Cantor Chaim Feifel and other dedicated and talented teachers. The scholarship will be for a minimum of £2,000 and will pay for the TACI tuition fees and some additional private tuition which the faculty has agreed to give. More might be available in deserving / needy cases.
Applications are invited from aspiring young cantors using our application form ycoyapp.doc (MS Word). Completed forms must be sent to Tephilharmonic to arrive no later than 31st December 2009 either:

Competition Rules and Process
- Applicants must be under 28 on the 1st January 2010.
- Applicants must have been resident in the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
- Candidates who are committed to a career as at least a part-time orthodox chazan in the UK will be favoured.
- Applicants will be shortlisted as a result of the completed application form by a selection panel who may consult with TACI staff if they deem this appropriate.
- All shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview and audition with one or more of the members of the selection panel.
- The selection panel will consist of (a subset of) the Tephilharmonic committee which currently includes Cantors Gedalya Alexander, Avromi Freilich, Moshe Haschel, Steven Leas and Steve Robins.
- Interviews/auditions will take place early in 2010.
- The three selected best candidates from the interview/audition stage will be invited to sing two pieces at a public concert to be held in a date to be announced in 2010.
- The winning applicant will be announced at the end of the concert.
- The scholarship must be taken up at the start of the academic year after Sukkot 2010 and will be for a 1 year duration.
- Applicants who have previously entered in one year are not disbarred from applying for the award also in subsequent years.
- The decision of the selection panel will be final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the selection.
